underwater - HALLUCINATIONS

"While walking on the dune, I passed through the prism and found myself underwater, roaming the bottom of the sea" With this idea, the series underwater (HALLUCINATIONS) follows on from PARNIDIS GRAIN STUDIES and experiments with the process of image colouring using photo etching colours.

Detail shots of patterns in the sand on the surface of the dune are reinterpreted as underwater shots through the intervention of toning, poetically questioning the relationship between what is seen and what is felt and experienced on an individual and intimate basis. The artificial yet organic colouring of the baryta paper therefore serves as a reference for the transformations that both reality and perception undergo through the use of imaging media in the image. What ultimately becomes visible is the grey area between the factual-documentary and the abstract-poetic qualities of photography.
